We are a coalition of organisations in Scotland who formed in April 2008 in response to the suggestion that the Scottish Government may consider raising the drinking age as part of their alcohol strategy.
Since then the Scottish Government have released their strategy and announced their intention to raise the legal drinking age in off-sale purchases from 18 to 21.
CARDAS strongly supports efforts to tackle Scotland’s alcohol problems and to encourage responsible drinking. However, we do not believe that raising the drinking age is a useful method and we think that alternative approaches would be more effective in addressing the core issues fuelling alcohol misuse.
We want to persuade the Scottish Government that raising the drinking age is not the answer to Scotland’s alcohol problems. Please browse our website to find out more about our arguments and alternative recommendations.
